  12.      The WD1003A-RA2 controller is designed to interface with up to two 
  13.      floppy disk drives and up to two Winchester ST506/ST412 RLL type hard 
  14.      disk drives in an IBM PC AT or compatible system and will support 
  15.      drives with up to 16 read/write heads and 2048 cylinders.  Each drive 
  16.      may be a different configuration.  With the 2, 7 RLL encoding feature 
  17.      of the WD1003A-RA2, up to 50% more data can be compacted onto a 
  18.      certified RLL hard disk drive using a 26 sectors per track format.

  22.             DO NOT USE THE WD1003A-RA2 WITH MFM TYPE HARD DISK DRIVES
  23.      
  24.      Installation of the controller requires three steps:  1) verifying 
  25.      jumper settings; 2) installing into the host computer; 3) formatting 
  26.      the hard disk drives.  To complete installation, you will need the 
  27.      following:
  28.      
  29.      Two hard disk cables (3 if using 2 hard disk drives); one 34 pin 
  30.      floppy drive cable (a daisy chain type cable if using two floppy disk 
  31.      drives); Winchester hard disk drive; floppy disk drive; screwdriver; 
  32.      MSDOS Version 2.0 or later; IBM Advanced Diagnostic diskette (or 
  33.      similar program for IBM compatibles); System Diagnostic Diskette (or 
  34.      equivalent); FDISK and Format utility (normally included with MSDOS).

  39.                  HANDLE THE CONTROLLER BY THE ENDS OF THE BOARD

  43.      Before you can install your WD1003A-RA2, you will need to be certain 
  44.      that the jumpers (small shorting plugs) are correctly set.  Refer to 
  45.      Table 1 for correct jumper settings.  Modification of factory jumper 
  46.      settings is rarely necessary.  Modify jumpers only under the 
  47.      direction of a qualified individual; i.e. your dealer.

  105.                               IBM Personal Computer AT users. Not all AT-
  106.                               compatible systems use the same drive tables
  107.                               as IBM.) This configuration must be used 
  108.                               when running an operating system or applica-
  109.                               tion program which requires a 17 sector per
  110.                               track disk drive.

  202.                         MAKE SURE COMPUTER IS TURNED OFF

  205.      1.  Verify that your host computer has a 135 watt power supply.  If 
  206.      the disk drive(s) is(are) being installed internally, it is best to 
  207.      locate the controller in the nearest available expansion slot to the 
  208.      drive.
  209.      
  210.      2.  Remove the blank expansion slot bracket.  Put the bracket away 
  211.      and save it for possible future use.  The screw will be used to hold 
  212.      the new controller in place.
  213.      
  214.      3.  The terminating resistor must be present only on the last hard 
  215.      disk drive connected.  If there are two drives, the terminating 
  216.      resistor must be present on the second drive.  Verify proper setting 
  217.      of drive select switches for drive select 1 or 2. Refer to your 
  218.      system owner's manual for information about proper drive termination 
  219.      and select switches.
  220.      
  221.      4.  Attach 34-pin control connector pin 1 to J4 on the controller 
  222.      board.  Make sure that Pin 1 of the cable connector goes to Pin 1 on 
  223.      the controller board.  Pin 1 of the cable connector is typically 
  224.      located on the color coded side of the cable.
  225.      
  226.      5.   Connect control cable to drive.
  227.      
  228.      6.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J3 (Drive C or 0).
  229.      
  230.      7.   Attach 20-pin data connector to J2 (Drive D or 1).
  231.      
  232.      8.   Connect data cables to drives.
  233.      
  234.      9.   Attach 34-pin floppy cable connector to J5.
  235.      
  236.      10.  Attach Winchester activity LED connector to J1.
  237.      
  238.      11.  Install controller board into the expansion slot. Make sure that 
  239.      the board is seated properly by pressing down on both ends of the 
  240.      board.  Secure the board with the bracket screw.
  241.      
  242.      12.  Remove or disable any other floppy controller in your system 
  243.      when installing a WD1003A-RA2.  It is NOT possible to disable the 
  244.      floppy controller on the WD1003A-RA2.

  247.                                      CAUTION
  248.                   WHEN ROUTING CABLES, BE CAREFUL NOT TO PINCH
  249.                   THEM.  CABLES MUST NOT GET CAUGHT BETWEEN THE
  250.                  COVER AND THE BOARDS, NOR SHOULD THEY OBSTRUCT
  251.                       ANY AIR FLOW PATH FROM FANS OR VENTS.
